Four groups of people settled and colonized the United States of America. The first were Asian travelers, who became known as native Americans or American Indians. thousands of years later, the Europeans came. the first were the Spanish, then the French and finally the British.
Native American tribes eventually spread through the whole of America including the islands. Their cultures were diverse, but in some important ways they were all alike. Common elements of traditional American Indian culture included respect for the land, making what was needed by hand and hunting and gathering food.
Their goal was to expand their colonies. European nations were constantly attacking one another in order to obtain the valuable territory and expand their land. Another motive was to make all non Christians to convert to Christianity and thought it was their duty to do so. They did this because the Christian church is stronger when it has more believers so they tried to make Asians, Africans and Americans convert.
The last motive was a sense of adventure and curiosity. The Europeans had the urge to find out what lay beyond the horizon and the will to take the risk of finding out. Just like now, when people have gone to space. this wouldn't have happened if we didn't have the will to explore.
Although the Chinese had invented gunpowder centuries before, there were no guns anywhere else in the world that could compare to the ones that the Europeans had developed by the 1500s. The Asians had much less sophisticated guns than the Europeans, and the Americans had no guns at all. This is the main reason that the Europeans were able to take over other countries.
